KARACHI: (Aftab Channa) A controversial police officer namely Allah Dino Khawaja, known as A D Khawaja who is currently holding the post of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, has dramatically become ‘police boss’ of own senior officers of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP).
Interestingly, the senior officers, who have become his juniors for the time being, are willing to work under leadership of their junior however Mr A D Khawaja is seemed reluctant to cooperate and serve the people of Sindh.
While portraying himself as ‘honest officer in Sindh province’ for which Mr A D Khawaja allegedly has some support of newsmen, the IGP Sindh has become controversial when he refused to obey the orders of the Sindh government for the reasons best known to the police chief.
In March 2016, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led federal government had appointed Mr A D Khawaja as the new IGP Sindh replacing Ghulam Haider Jamali following orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The decision of the federal government was warmly welcomed and the A D Khawaja was allowed to join as IGP Sindh.
Mr Khawaja, a resident of village in Tando Muhammad Khan district, was born in a Muslim family but was raised by a non-Muslim namely Daryano Mal, a local Hindu businessman who had no son. Daryano Mal had bore all the expenses of Khawaja.
Mr A D Khawaja had appeared in the CSS exams and was allocated Foreign Services of Pakistan under 15th CTP however he was reallocated the Police Service of Pakistan in 16th CTP.
The most interestingly, three senior police officers namely Khadim Hussain Bhatti, Ghulam Qadir Thebo and Sardar Abdul Majeed Dashti had passed the CSS exams and allotted Police Service of Pakistan under 13th CTP which means these three officers are at least three years senior to Mr A D Khawaja.
Mr Khadim Hussain Bhatti is presently posted as Additional Inspector General Police Research and Development and Inspection, while Ghulam Qadir Thebo is Additional Inspector General (AIG) Police, Karachi and Sardar Abdul Majeed Dashti as AIG Police. The senior most police officer Khadim Hussain Bhatti is retiring from his service within coming few days.
In the recent past, Mr A D Khawaja allegedly became controversial as the Pakistan People’s Party-led Sindh government has sent him packing twice. On both times, the court and the federal government came to his rescue.
The political tussle between the center and the province has worn out Sindh police top slot. He has recently asked the federal government to release him of his duties however the PML-N led federal government is allegedly using Khawaja as a tool his interfere into the provincial matters of its rival political party in Sindh.
Many officials accused A D Khawaja of embezzling government funds and using that money to establish a series of petrol pumps however he never accepted the allegations by saying that it was just aimed at maligning him. Presently, Mr A D Khawaja is enjoying the post of IGP Sindh not because of his performance but following stay order granted to him by the honorable court.
The political analysts believe that if Mr A D Khawaja really follows merit-based appointments, transfers and postings then he should have not accepted the post of IG Sindh. Indeed, Mr Khawaja should have requested the higher authorities of posting his seniors like Khadim Hussain Bhatti, Ghulam Qadir Thebo or Sardar Abdul Majeed Dashti.
Sindh Post repeatedly tried to contact IGP Sindh A D Khawaja to seek his official point of view however his cell phone remained unattended till filing of the story.
