Karachi: (Aftab Channa) The judicial commission formed by the Supreme Court was informed on Saturday that clean drinking water will be provided to the people in all the hospitals all-over Sindh within 15 days.

Headed by Justice Mohammad Iqbal Kalhoro of the Sindh High Court, the commission was appointed by the top court to inquire into the Sindh government’s alleged failure to provide pure drinking water and sanitation facilities in the province.

The secretary health has submitted a report regarding supply of drinking water in the hospitals in the province along with reports called by him from all the medical Superintendents of the hospitals of Sindh.

According to him, all the medical superintendents were sensitized about the issue of providing drinking water to all people in the hospitals. He added that all people in the hospitals will drink clean water within 15 days.

The secretary health also assured the commission to supervise the supply of clean drinking water to the people in the hospitals and submit periodical reports in this behalf.

Separately, the judicial body was informed that Sewerage Treatment Plants STP-I and STP-II in Shaheed Benazirabad are completed but, could not be functional due to non provision of electricity.

The Secretary PHED informed the judge that STP-I and STP-II have not been put into operation for want of electricity connections. He said that PHED department has already ordered for purchasing of two transformers, which are likely to be supplied within 3 days.

The secretary told the commission that HESCO and SEPCO do not bother to supply electricity connections to many water supply and drainage schemes due to which system collapses.

The judicial body directed HESCO and SEPCO to explain the reason why water schemes are not being provided electricity.
