Karachi: Muhammad Zubair 61, was sworn in as 32nd Governor of Sindh in a ceremony held at Governor House Sindh on Thursday.
Juctice Sajjad Ali Shah, The Chief Jusice Sindh High court took oath from the newly appointed Governor and ceremony was witnessed by the Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Agha Siraj Durrani , The Speaker Sindh Assembly, Mariam Aurangzeb, State Minister for Informantion, Corps Commander Lt. General Shahid Baig, DG Rangers Sindh Maj. General Mohammad Saeed, The Inspector General of SIndh Mr. Allah Dino Khuwaja and other dignitaries from Sindh Government, Armed forces and Business community of Karachi.
Leaders from Pakistan Muslim league Nawaz Sindh, Senator Nihal Hashmi, Salim Zia, MPA Ismail Rahu, MPA Humayoon Khan, MPA Sorath Thebo and Shafi Mohammad Jamot were not not seen in the oath taking ceremony. They were also not present at the Mazar e Qauid with their Party’s Nominated Governor. According to sources they are kept away from the Governor and were not invited.
Mohammad Zubair is appointed after the death of the former Governor Justice (R) Saeed Ul Zaman Siddiqi on January 11 this Year.
Muhammad Zubair graduated with Masters in Public Administration from IBA Karachi in 1984. He has served in various capacities and has worked abroad with IBM till 2009. He resigned as chief financial officer from IBM in 2009.
He Joined Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz in 2012. After PMLN formed its federal government, Mr Zubair has Served as the Chairman Board of Investment and later with a status of State Minister he has served as the chairman Privatization Commission of Pakistan.
The appointment of New Governor is being highly criticized on social media. Many people have raise the question that “can a Sindhi become the Governor of Punjab”? .
Civil Society of Sindh calls it a discrimination with the people of Sindh for not appointing any Sindh based political leader as the Governor by Punjab Based Prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
