Parachinar: At least 25 people got killed and 49 reported injured in vegetable Market of Parachinar in Kurram agency area of Pakistan on Saturday Morning, Pakistani Media reported.

The blast took place at a time when vegetable market was in its full activity and wholesalers were busy in selling vegetable to retail shop owners and on cart sellers. At the time of the blast there was a big number of vegetable sellers present in the market, Reported Geo News.

Ikramullah Khan, a senior government official in Parachinar, said that the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) which was hidden in a vegetable box. The explosion was remote-controlled, a bomb disposal squad official said.

According to Media a text message was sent to journalists by Proscribed Lashkar e Jhaghvi al Aalmi  claiming the Blast along with Tehreek e Taliban splinter Shehryar Mehsud Group. However the Mehsud group has not independently claimed the bombing yet.

According to Pakistan Military’s public relations department  Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the blast took place at 08:50am.

Ashiq Hussain, an eyewitness with minor injuries told reporters “There was a big bang and a dark cloud of smoke and dust I saw before passing out”.

Army personnel and Frontier Corps’s Quick Reaction Force reached the blast site and cordoned off the area. Army helicopters were also flown to the site to evacuate the injured to hospitals, the ISPR said.

According to an ISPR statement, Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa directed the troops to make efforts for quick evacuation of the blast victims and ensure they are provided “best medical care”.

“Terrorists will fail in their attempt to regain lost relevance,” Gen Bajwa was quoted as saying.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed grief over the latest loss of life, his office said in a statement.
