Karachi: (Special Correspondent) The Culture and Tourism Department of the Sindh government has allegedly bribed media houses and the journalists for making historic documentaries, SindhPost has learnt.

According to sources, the culture and tourism department of Sindh has awarded four contracts worth Rs 25 million each for making documentaries of province’s historic places to some four media houses. These included Sindh TV, KTN News, Mehran TV and GEO News, sources added.

Moreover, the culture department, headed by PPP Minister Syed Sardar Shah, has also bribed many journalists working in Urdu and Sindhi media for projecting minister’s and department’s soft image in their respective organisations.

These journalists have been given Rs 1 million to Rs 1.5 million under the name of historic documentaries. These journalists included From KTN News and Jaag TV.

Ironically, the culture department following directions of provincial minister Sardar Shah has appointed a renowned TV Actor and a Sindhi intellectual and poet in the department against all the rules and regulations set for the appointments.

When contacted, Secretary Culture and Tourism Akbar Leghari confirmed the award of contracts saying that these contracts were awarded by following all the formalities. “These media houses have applied through proper channels hence they have been tasked to make documentaries on history of Sindh”, he added.
