Malta: Two hijackers seemingly the supporters of former Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi forcefully diverted Afriqiyah Airways domestic flight 8U209 scheduled to land in the capital city Tripoli.

Airbus A320 carrying 111 passengers and 6 crew members  took off Friday morning from Sabha, a desert city in south west Libya. Hijackers forced the plane to divert to Malta.

After hours of negotiations the hijackers first allowed women to leave the plane and later all men were released.
The hijackers have surrendered and are being interrogated by the Maltese authorities.

The plane is being searched for any possible weapons in it. The passangers are also being questioned to know about the certain events during the flight, said Joseph Muscut the Prime Minister of Malta in a press briefing.
