Former IAF chief SP Tyagi was arrested today after hours of questioning along with his cousin Sanjeev Tyagi & Lawyer Gautam Khaitan in 3600 crores VVIP chopper purchase deal with UK based Helicopter manufacturer Augusta Westland.

The CBI registered the case in 2013 with the charges of kickbacks and other favors to the company. More than 18 high profile officials are also booked in the same corruption case.

Retired Air Marshal Tyagi, who headed the Air Force between 2004 and 2007, is accused by investigators in Italy and India of helping AgustaWestland win the chopper contract by tailoring specifications at the instance of his cousins.

Investigators say there is evidence that Air Mashal Tyagi met with a top official of Agusta’s parent company Finmeccanica when he was Air Chief: Reported Indian media.

India’s defence ministry cancelled the 12-helicopter deal in 2014, after announcing that it would carry out its own investigation into the matter.
